Two Siblings, Motorcyclist Allegedly Crushed To Death By Speeding Student Driver In Ondo

Two siblings and a motorcyclist were killed after a speeding vehicle ran over them at Akungba Akoko, Akoko South West area of Ondo state.

The siblings are Joshua Ogbeye 20years
Eniola Ogbeye 13years and the motorclist, Idowu Omitogun, 20 years

In a swift response, some irate youths in the community, set ablaze the vehicle that killed the victims in front of an eatery, in the community.

Sources said that the driver of the vehicle, a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, fled the scene after the crash for gear of being lynched.

Speaking on the crash, the University Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Noble Olaogbebikan, said that police detectives are on the trail of the student driver.

Olaogbebikan who added that the identity of the student driver remained unknown, pleaded with the student to remain calm.

Another source said that ” the crash involved a Toyota Camry car with number plate LND 592 GX and two commercial buses.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the car suddenly opened the door and hit the motorcycle which carried the victims and they fell down on the road while the other vehicle coming on the other side ran over them.

The victims were said to have died on the spot, while the driver of the car immediately fled the scene for fear of being lynched while youths in the area set the car ablaze.

Contacted the states Sector Commander of the Road Safety Commission, Mr Ezekiel Son’Allah, who confirmed the accident, said that it was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation on the part of the vehicles involved.

Son’Allah said, “Three persons were killed while the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation. The victims were taken to Aduloju Hospital Akungba by the policemen.”

He cautioned motorists to avoid violating traffic rules adding that speed breakers should be mounted on the road to forestall recurrent crashes on the road.

The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, said that police detectives would soon apprehend the student driver.

Odunlami said that the vehicle which crushed the victims was set ablaze by some youths in the community.

She added that peace has finally returned to the troubled community after the intervention of men of the command.
