A Kogi State High Court in Lokoja has summoned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, to appear before it on May 13, 2024, to address allegations of contempt of court.

The court's directive follows a motion filed by the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, accusing the EFCC of disregarding a court order. Justice I. A. Jamil, presiding over the case, highlighted that the EFCC had taken actions prohibited by a court order issued on February 9, 2024.

The controversy stemmed from EFCC operatives' attempt to arrest Alhaji Yahaya Bello at his residence on April 17, 2024, despite a court order restraining such actions pending the determination of a substantive motion.

In response to Bello's motion, Justice Jamil granted his request and ordered the summoning of Olukoyede to address the contempt charge. The court emphasized that the EFCC's actions constituted a violation of a valid and subsisting court order, warranting further examination.

The court's decision underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting court orders, as it seeks to ensure accountability and transparency in legal proceedings.
