A wave of controversy has swept through the Lagos State Police Command following the dismissal of two police inspectors suspected of being romantically involved with each other, sparking debates and raising questions about disciplinary actions within the force.

The dismissed officers, identified as Inspectors Adedoyin Damilola and Makanjuola Modupe, formerly stationed at the Bariga Division, have been embroiled in a tumultuous ordeal that has captured the attention of both the police hierarchy and the public.

The situation escalated when Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Joshua Gbadegeshin, accused Inspector Modupe of engaging in a romantic relationship with her colleague, Inspector Damilola, despite allegedly rejecting his advances. The accusations, vehemently denied by Inspector Modupe, triggered a chain of events leading to their dismissal.

In a bid to defend themselves against the allegations and what they perceived as victimization by the DPO, the affected inspectors lodged a petition with the Commissioner of Police, citing threats to their lives and unprofessional conduct by their superior officer.

The petition included evidence of alleged misconduct by the DPO, such as amorous WhatsApp messages and accusations of providing official arms and police attire to civilian relatives for unauthorized operations.

However, their efforts to seek justice were met with further complications. The DPO retaliated by filing a counter-petition accusing the inspectors of dereliction of duty and insubordination, prompting an internal investigation and subsequent dismissal.

Despite being given seven working days to appeal their dismissal, the dismissed officers claim they were misled into withdrawing their initial petition against the DPO under false pretenses of an amicable resolution.

The unfolding saga underscores the complexities of internal dynamics within law enforcement agencies and raises concerns about transparency, accountability, and due process in disciplinary proceedings.

As the controversy continues to unfold, stakeholders are calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations and a fair resolution to ensure justice for all parties involved.
