Tragedy struck at Moshalashi Street, Orile, Sari Iganmu, Lagos, South West Nigeria, when a young man, Ahmed Fatai, 25, suddenly went beserk, took a knife and started pursuing people on the street and in the process stabbed one Afisi Agboola, 26, on his neck and head to death.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspect was overpowered by residents who seized the knife from him and beat him silly.
The victim, it was learnt, was quickly rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed him dead due to excessive loss of blood. The suspect was also handed over to policemen at the Orile Division.
P.M.NEWS further learnt that the victim was passing by the street when the suspect suddenly went mad, picked a knife in a nearby shop and started pursuing people in the street.
When P.M.NEWS visited Moshalashi Street on Thursday morning, the residents were discussing the matter in groups.
A resident who identified himself as Okwudili said the suspect appeared to have mental problems. He explained that the deceased and his mother were passing by the street when the suspect attacked him.
P.M.NEWS also gathered that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital, while the suspect after a preliminary investigation at the Orile Police Station was transferred to the State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos for further interrogation.
A police source at the Orile Division confirmed the story, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the state CID, Panti, Yaba.
A senior police officer at the SCID confirmed the presence of the suspect in the department, stressing that he is undergoing interrogation.
