Tragedy struck late last night as a trailer loaded with cement belonging to African investment giant, Dangote Group of Companies, crushed to death three students of Ado-Ekiti Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, and another five sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Sources within the vicinity of the crash revealed that the accident occurred at about 10:00 last night when the heavily loaded truck with white sand lost control and ran into the Bus conveying the students smashing it from behind and forcing is to shrew off the road to hit a nearby fence in the process, and killing three of its occupants on the spot with the remaining five in danger list.
The students who were said to be of the Electrical/Electronic Department of the institution where returning from an excursion tour of Lagos when the cras occurred.
Commenting on the sad incidence, the State Traffic Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Ekiti State Command, ASP. Olalekan Fatola confirmed it and attributed the cause of the accidents to over-speeding and lack of concentration on the part of the truck driver. He however cautioned motorists to desist from such acts for the sake of their safety and those of other road users.
He revealed that the injured students have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital for medical attention while the copses of those killed have been deposited in the morgue of the same hospital.
