The chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, Mr. Gbenga Opadotun, on Friday urged President Goodluck Jonathan and security agencies in the country to fish out the masterminds of Thursday’s bombing of media houses in the country.
Opadotun spoke during the maiden edition of Oyo NUJ Workers’ Day lecture and presentation of commendation certificates to labour leaders in the state.
Describing the blasts as shocking and unfortunate, the NUJ chairman called on the Federal Government to rise to the challenge posed by terrorism.
He said the general state of insecurity in the land calls to question the spending on security by the present administration.
Opadotun, who called for the declaration of national emergency to stem the tide of general insecurity in the land, admonished the people to pray.
He urged Nigerian journalists not to be discouraged by Thursday’s incident from carrying out their duties with vigour.
Also, the League of Veteran Journalists in Oyo State, in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sola Osotoye, expressed sadness over the incessant bombings and killing of innocent citizens in the country.
The group said, “The country’s security is weak. Far reaching decisions must be reached in order to tackle the Boko Haram menace.”
