Men of the Oyo State police command have arrested six suspected car robbers including a father, Eyo Okon (70) and his son, Benje Okon (31), who have been terrorising car owners in the state.

Also arrested were three women, Bada Abosede, Bose Dada (27), Funmilayo Dauda (48) and Moses Samuel (39), who worked with the suspects in their operations.

The state Commissioner of Police, Tambaro Muhammed, while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday, said they were arrested after snatching a Toyota Camry car in Ogbomoso.

The hoodlums were heading towards Ibadan, when information got to Moniya Police Station, and the policemen immediately swung into action.

According to him, the search party was able to trace them to Trend Hotel in Arulogun area, where the hoodlums were trying to disconnect the tracking device in the car, but took to their heels as soon as they sighted the police, adding that they were given a hot a chase and as a result, the younger Okon was arrested with his girlfriend, Bada Abosede.

He said the car was recovered along side a Nissan Micra car, with registration number, Lagos LSD 376 AE, which the hoodlums abandoned, adding that further investigation led to the arrest of Samuel.

The police boss also said the father of the younger Okon, Eyo, allegedly dressed in an Assistant Supritendent of Police uniform stormed the Moniya police division to “rescue” his son who was in detention.

He was said to have introduced himself as a Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Lekki Beach police division, Lagos.

The police boss said he had come to seek for the release of his son but in the course of interrogation, it was discovered that he was neither a member of the Nigeria Police Force nor a DCO at Lekki Beach.

He added that they would soon be charged to court.
