LAGOS – A member of a five-man robbery gang which specialised in attacking bank customers, was, yesterday, killed during a gun battle with policemen on Commercial Road, Apapa, Lagos.
This came as three Beninoise were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy in Morogbo, near Badagry.
It was gathered that the gunmen, who rode on three motorcycles, stormed the area at noon, and reportedly dispossessed their victims of cash and other valuables.
They were about snatching a vehicle from a motorist who attempted to flee the scene when a team of policemen on patrol swooped on them.
On sighting the policemen, the robbers reportedly opened fire on them. In the process, two of the robbers were shot. The robbers, it was gathered, escaped with one of their injured colleagues, leaving the other to his fate.
One locally-made double barrel pistol with five live cartridges and a Honda motorcycle, according to spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, Joseph Jaiyeoba, were recovered from the dead suspect. He said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for investigation.
