WHEN A PRESIDENT DOES THE UNTHINKABLE!
Kaduna is drifting gradually into WAR, Damaturu is faced with genocide, kidnapping in the Niger-Delta region is once again rearing its ugly head, violence is ubiquitous, even the so-called stoical cities are being threatened, and our amiable president, Goodlock Jonathan is in far away Brazil to attend a G20 Summit. What an irony! It is often said, it's a nincompoop that leaves his house on FIRE and go on traveling jamboree. Our present case may not be in any way different. Of course you can't give what you don't have, and like a friend asked albeit rhetorically, and jocularly too, "What action do we expect our president to do, of course to ask his spokesperson, Reuben Abati "...O boy, where was the last attack? Jos? Good! Do you still have a copy of the last condolence message? Yes, sir! Better, just change the heading to Kaduna and Damaturu and go on air to read it to them, as for me, am off to Brazil".
Such is a clueless and non-responsive system that we now run in Nigeria. Without being wittingly vociferous and deridingly vitriolic about the leadership style of president Goodluck, it suffices to say he has further confirmed his earlier position on the continuous carnage, that the issue of Boko Haram had come to stay for a while, it therefore by extension becomes an idiosyncrasy to our National life. President Goodluck asserted that the whole system is Boko Haram infiltrated, yet he has done almost nothing to ensure that the brigandage stops. Each time the country witnesses the ugly incident, everybody says let's call on God and withdraws to our shell waiting for the next bomb explosion.
What I really can't fathom is why the group has continued to attack the hapless masses, not to talk of bombing places of worship. If they claim they're Islamic "Jihadist", where is it written in Islamic jurisprudence-either Qur'an or Hadith or even in Seerah (history) that Muslims should attack harmless and innocuous people, places of worship, worst off, killing children and women? Have they not read that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) even requested that he be allowed to
pray in a church once he visited a Christian Monk?
The last time I know of Jihad, it is of 2 parts-the first one being the inner self Jihad to choose between the path of goodness or that of callousness. Secondly, to take up arms against those who OPPRESS Muslims and Islam by way of killing, murder or assassination. In other words, to resist oppression from the powers that be. And I can't remember the last time Nigerian government prevents a person or group of persons from practicing their belief. Some couple of months ago, sometimes last year, the group issued a statement that they're not against the Nigerian people but the government, why then the sudden turn of event? Why have they not taken their fight to government itself? It's clear that these guys are sophisticated in the way they carry out their onslaught, why then did they not take their fight to the door step of government? Why should the already impoverished hoi polloi be used as the sacrificial lamb for ritual perpendicularity of our political class? I can only but hope that there will still be a Nigeria where one clueless leadership will steer her leadership voyage in the next 2 years if this ugly trend is not reversed......#Enofsaid.
