Our reporter learnt that the suspects are presently undergoing interrogations to release those that are innocent.
One of the suspects, Musa Isa, a 24 –year- old, said he only sells drug and uses the knives recovered from him for protection. ‘I don’t see Indian hemp selling as a crime because big men patronize us,” he said.
Ifeanyichukwu Odionye, another suspect allegedly caught with Indian hemp, said he is not an armed robber.
Responding, FCT SARS Commandant, Chief Superintendent Ben Igwe described Bakassi as a black spot on their watch list. He said information reaching the police points to the fact that a lot of criminals, armed robbers and prostitutes who aid criminals in their activities reside at Bakassi. “Innocent people are beaten as well as victimized every time, which is why we raid the area weekly but what we saw this morning scared us,” the police officer said.
He said 15 of the suspects have accepted being criminals or armed robbers and will soon be charged to court, while the rest are being scrutinized to ensure that criminals are not let loose. “The raiding exercise is still ongoing and we won’t rest until criminals are flushed out from the area,” he said.
