State Governor Dakingari disclosed this yesterday in Birnin Kebbi while launching the 2012 wet season fertilizer sales at Karda premises, Kalgo.
Dakingari said that 80,000 farmers had been registered and that the federal government would not directly supply fertilizer to farmers; under the new arrangement, farmers would get their fertilizer after being registered. Each bag, according to the governor, would cost the farmer N1700, and the sales will commence immediately.
The Commissioner of Agriculture, Elder Sani D. Kanya, said that the delay experienced in this year’s release of fertilizer was due to proper arrangements put in place by the government, which included the newly introduced sale of fertilizer through registration.
He further said that government this time around will ensure prudent distribution of the commodity to the farmers in the state.
