Police Defuse Bombs in Residential area in JOS

Jos – The Plateau State Police Command said on Friday in Jos that its men had  successfully defused bombs planted at Congo Russia, a residential neighbourhood in the Jos North Local Government Area.

A statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abu Emmanuel, said the bombs were planted by suspected terrorists on Thursday night.

He said that the Police Anti-bomb Squad responded promptly to a distress call by the divisional police officer of the area and defused the bombs.

“The Plateau State Police Command wishes to intimate members of the public on the incident that occurred in Jos North Local Government Area yesterday July 5, 2012.

“At about 23:50 hours suspected terrorists planted improvised explosive devices at Congo Russia, Jos North.

“However, there was a distress call from the Divisional Police Officer of Nasarawa Gwong Division, CSP. John Edeh, which prompted the Police Anti-Bomb Squad led by ASP. Abel Mbibi, to respond and move swiftly to the scene of the incident.

“The Police Anti-Bomb Squad successfully recovered, disarmed, defused and evacuated the improvised explosives otherwise called bombs, planted by the terrorists,” he said.

The spokesman said that there was no casualty and damage to property, while no arrest had been made yet in connection with the incident.

“But police have intensified efforts to track down the hoodlums, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ayeni, appreciates and is highly delighted with the manner members of the public reacted to the incident and admonished them to sustain the tempo. ”

Ayeni urged members of the public to report any suspicious movement of criminal elements to the police and other security agencies so as to nip in the bud, criminal activities of terrorists in the state.

He assured that the state’s police command in collaboration with other security agencies were capable of providing adequate and comprehensive security in Plateau State.

The commissioner said that security agencies were on top of the security situation in the state, urging law-abiding citizens to go about their activities without fear of intimidation. (NAN)
