The Federal Government has abandoned about 12,000 capital projects worth N7.7 trillion across the country last year, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said. The Speaker said this yesterday when he declared opened a stakeholders forum on budget implementation in Abuja, organised by the House Committee on Appropriations. He called for a change from the present cash-based budgeting system to performance-based system - a model which allows for the allocation of resources based on verifiable project viability and performance index.” Tambuwal disclosed that in 2011 alone, the Presidential Projects Assessment Committee estimated that over 11,886 projects valued at N7.7 trillion were abandoned after government had spent N2.2 trillion on them.
