Why Oshiomhole must win - Commissioner

THE Edo State Commissioner for Transport, Victor Enoghama, has said the unparalleled development which Governor Adams Oshiomhole has engineered in the state in the last three and a half years has endeared him to the hearts of the people and made him their choice for a second term as governor.

Enoghama, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Benin City, on Tuesday, said Oshiomhole’s development projects, which were beyond the expectations of the people, stood him out among other candidates, a reason he would win the gubernatorial election on Saturday.

He said he had no doubt that Governor Oshiomhole had raised the stake of governance beyond the statutory provision of infrastructure, to laying solid foundation that would confront future challenges.

According to Eno-ghama, Oshiomhole’s response to the yearnings of the people, even before they requested, underscored his pro-activeness.

The commissioner also enumerated the achievements of Governor Oshiomhole to include the strengthening of the security of the state with over 300 patrol vans to the state police command; the provision of communication gadgets to the police; employment of over 6,000 youths under the Youth Employment Scheme (YES) and effective coordination and provision of a sense of direction to local government administration.

Besides, he listed the release and payment of hundreds of millions of naira as severance allowance to past political office holders in the 18 local government areas of the state; payment of local government pensioners; access to cheap and qualitative health care; provision of potable water and rural electrification as some of the reasons the people must vote for Oshiomhole and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Saturday.

Akoko-Edo PDP chairman optimistic of victory

THE chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo area of Edo State, Mr Ojo Momoh, has said  he is optimistic over the Saturday governorship poll.

He made the call while addressing the crowd at the party secretariat at Igarra, on Tuesday.

According to him, “I have visited all areas in the 10 wards of the council and I discovered that the people truly wanted a change. We have a vision to move the state forward. We are getting support because the sitting state governor has not been able to achieve one quarter of his campaign promises.

“We are going to bring back all he has stopped. I remembered what he said on August 19, 2009 while he was on a campaign rally at the Ibillo market square. He said only a child that fails in class will repeat. He has not told Edo people that he has failed, Oshiomhole should be bold to accept failure.”

Also speaking, ward seven chairman of the PDP, Samuel Alao, said “we are not noise makers, we have passed the stage of politics of bitterness and we are campaigning from house to house and telling them about the good vision Major-General Charles Airhiavbere (retd) have for the people of Edo.”

Heaven will not fall if Oshiomhole loses - PDP

THE Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as irresponsible, the statement credited to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, saying that heaven will fall if Governor Adams Oshiomhole did not win governorship election in the state on Saturday.

The Edo PDP said “heaven will not fall if Adams Oshiomhole and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lose the governorship election,” adding that instead, “the people of the state will be happy that they rejected Oshiomhole and the ACN at the poll.”

The state publicity secretary of the PDP, Matthew Urhoghide, who spoke on behalf of the party, while reacting to Governor Aregbesola’s statement during last Saturday’s mega governorship rally of the ACN in Benin City, said “if the PDP wins and PDP is going to win, there is nothing Oshiomhole and the ACN can do about it.”

Urhoghide pointed out that Aregbesola’s statement was unbecoming of a governor and, according to him, “we know that Osun has become volatile because of utterances like these that have put the state on fire.”

According to the Edo PDP, “we are not bothered by the threat; nothing moves us about this empty threat. It is made to pacify Oshiomhole and his sinking ship. Edo people will decide who will rule them on July.”

Fashola drums up support for Oshiomhole

THE Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has charged the people of Edo State to vote massively for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in the Saturday’s election, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, noting his performance in the last four years.

Speaking with newsmen, Fashola said “what you fought with your blood four years ago, you have seen the result. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was here for eight years. They have been in our national life. That is why we cannot have adequate power supply; that is why we cannot have water, no roads; so if you like what ACN government is doing here, you must vote in Governor Oshiomhole.

‘This was where I was made. I am a product of the University of Benin. I did my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) here and I am not a criminal.”

He charged the people to stay with the party and governor that has performed, adding that “all the things PDP told you was not possible have been made possible by Governor Oshiom-hole on the platform of the ACN, so stay true to the party.”

Listing some of the infrastructural renewals carried out by Governor Oshiomhole, including the eight-lane Akpakpava Street in Benin City, Governor Fashola said although Nigeria had all the money to better the life of Nigerians, the Federal Government, under the control of the PDP, had subjected the citizens to servitude.

He urged the people of Edo State to not only turn out en masse on Saturday to return the ACN candidate to the Government House.
