Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Chief Olusola Oke and Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu,
on Saturday emerged as the governorship candidates of the Labour Party, People Democratic Party and Action Congress of Nigeria respectively for the October 20 election in Ondo State.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, the Labour Party and the Peoples
Democratic held their primaries simultaneously at three venues in
Akure amidst tight security.
A former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, led delegates
across the state to elect Oke, who was a former National Legal Adviser
of the party while Mr. Saka Lawal emerged as the running mate.
Oke, who contested with nine other aspirants pledged to utilize his
vast experience in the politics to deliver the state for the party.
The LP also elected Mimiko as its candidate while Alhaji Ali Olanusi,
was picked as his running mate for the election.
This followed the decision of an aspirant, Chief Francis Ogunjumelo,
to step down for Mimiko.
Members of the ACN in the state ratified the decision of their
national leaders by electing Akeredolu as its candidate but did not
name his running mate.
The three primaries were conducted by the national leadership of the
parties while representatives of the Independent National Electoral
Commission and security agencies, monitored the process.
