Sources say the red began appearing in the Yangtze, the longest and largest river in China and the third longest river in the world, yesterday near the city of Chongquing, where the Yangtze connects to the Jialin River.
The Yangtze River is called “golden” because of the heavy rainfall it receives year-round, and it runs through Chongqing, Southwest China’s largest industrial and commercial center, also known as the “mountain city” because of the hills and peaks upon which its many buildings and factories stand.
As much as the reddening has stopped some people’s regular routine, it hasn’t stopped the local fishermen from fishing and going about their regular businesses. While the river’s red coloring was most pronounced near Chongqing it was also reported at several other points.
Experts are still reportedly investigating and finding out the reason behind the sudden color change!

Radio without battery, this is caused by high level of industrialization, I happen to be in a city where the river passes...do you know that river is also called CHANG JIANG RIVER and produces rice for the whole country and even the outside world? it also power china through the three gorges dam which is world's biggest power project. I am not surprise cos the river is a busy one and red color is yet to flow to some parts of the river in other cities, What is our government doing about the rivers in Nigeria?

Broda Aso, i was really speechless with your hypothesis and conclusion on the causes of the change in color of that River......... first of all, there are no scientific proof that industrialization can cause the color of a River to change over-night. 2 if really it was industrialization that means there are large deposit of atoms of chemicals on that river and it was not be conducive for fishing because the fishes will be dead.... 3 if that river supplies water to the rice field in china, i bet you there won't be rice production or harvest this year in china...... consider my points and get back to me........ how u dey naa? long time...
