An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, which gave the order, however, did not take the pleas of the accused.

Magistrate A.O. Akinde ruled that the court had no jurisdiction to try their case and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

“I hereby order the accused to be remanded in prison, pending a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions,” he said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the accused had on May 25 at 6.30p.m robbed Sterling Bank on Fatai Atere Way, Matori, of N8 million.

He said the accused, armed with pistols, also robbed some people of their valuables near Eco Bank in Okota area of the metropolis on Aug. 29.

“The accused, armed with four locally made pistols, robbed some people of their property including a laptop, blackberry phone, iPad phone and money, all valued at N159, 000, property of one Obinna Frederick,” Uwadione said.

He named others who were robbed of their belongings as Pauline Agokhaode, Aboh Dorcas, Samson Elisha, Taiwo Onibukola, Ogechi Ikeakaonwo and Nnenna Agunworgbo, valued at N538, 960.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused, who were arrested on September 26, also attempted to rob Sterling Bank a second time before they were apprehended.

Uwadione said the offences contravened Sections 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation 1990 (as amended).

Magistrate A.O. Akinde adjourned the case till December 13.
