Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has censured Western-style freedom, which he said has resulted in discrimination, bullying, and
warmongering policies.
Ayatollah Khamenei enumerated some cases of the Western-style freedom, stressing that “freedom in economy” that creates a system with special advantages for a certain group of people, “freedom in the political scene”
within the framework of bipartisan monopoly, and “freedom in moral issues” manifesting itself through corruption are the results of the Western-style freedom.
“These issues reflect terrible, bitter, heinous and in some cases abhorrent realities in the Western society, the results of which are discrimination, bullying, warmongering and
double standards towards noble issues like human rights and democracy,” the Iranian Spiritual Leader added.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with scholars, researchers, academic and seminary teachers on Tuesday.
The Leader also criticized the particular way of thinking that equals freedom with the absolute lack of restrictions.
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the
differences between the notion of freedom in Islam and the West and stated that the main difference between the Islamic and Western viewpoints regarding freedom lies in the basis of freedom.
The Leader said that, in the liberal way of
thinking, freedom is rooted in the notion of Humanism, while belief in God and disbelief in idolatry is the basis of freedom in Islam.
The Leader also described human dignity as
one of the major principles of freedom in Islam.
The Leader of the international green charter movement also criticised western so-called freedom saying that it is in fact slavery, and has turned war into peace, and ignorance
into strength, by glorifying idiocy. Freedom is the central issue of the Third Universal
Theory as expounded in The Green Book.
According to the Third Universal Theory, western freedom means unlimited freedom to exploit, the rule of the strong over the
weak, the greedy over the generous,
selfishness over compassion. The Leader gave an example that western freedom
means the freedom to have sex with animals on the street, if the law allows it.
On the other hand, the freedom of the Third Universal Theory, which can also be called Natural Freedom according to Natural Law, dictates that freedom is limited by the freedom of others. Thus the concept of
freedom is that you are free to do anything so long as it does not take away another's freedom.
The Leader of the international green charter movement gave some examples, saying that one is not free to go naked or have sex in a public area where others will be upset by viewing, nor is one free to smoke in a smoking area, but instead can smoke only if others breathing the air approve or give their permission.
