Unidentified gunmen in the early hours of today launched an attack at Madauchi village in the, Zango-Kataf local government area of Kaduna state,  killing the entire seven members of a family.

A resident of Madauchi village who does not want to identified, told Channels TV that the attackers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, stormed the village between 12 midnight and 1AM.

The assailants did not only kill the family, but they also burnt their house.

Another eyewitness who confirmed the attack, Amos Maiduniya, said that he was not in doubt that those responsible for the recent killing are Fulani herdsmen corroborating the earlier view of the unnamed resident.

Residents of Madauchi village and other neighbouring villages within southern part of the state are reported to have threatened to embark on reprisal attacks if the security agencies fail to identify and arrest the attackers.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna Police Public relations Officer, Aminu Lawan said the police are aware of the attack and have deployed a team of police officers to investigate the reason for the attack on innocent citizens.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Kaduna State has expressed his sadness over the killings in Madauchi, as he condemned it as “an act of barbarism.”

The governor through a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant Media, Reuben Buhari, noted that “more saddening is the fact that this incident came in when more concerted effort by this Government, through the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, is being made to entrench lasting and sustainable peace in Kaduna state.”

He however warned that “even in the face of such unwarranted and deliberate attempt to incite and create chaos, the state government will not be deterred in its quest of ensuring a secured and united Kaduna state.”

The State Government sympathized  with the families of the departed, as it urged the affected communities to “take comfort and strength from the fact that this loss is shared by many who truly care for them and may that give us the courage to face our tomorrow with the hope that peace will find a permanent abode within our state soonest.”
