Aba – It has been confirmed that no fewer than eight persons were feared dead in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia, in a ghastly motor accident, which occurred on Thursday evening.

The accident involved a Flour Mill Nigeria Ltd trailer, with registration number Abia XA 555 UNC and carrying gravel; three tricycles (Keke NAPEP); and an Abia Line Network Bus.

The accident occurred near the water side bridge, Ogbor Hill, on the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road.

An eyewitness at the scene of the accident, said that five of the eight persons who were feared dead were passengers in the three commercial tricycles involved in the accident.

Two were passengers in the Abia line bus and another person suspected to be the driver of one of the tricycle were also feared dead.

The eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the break of the tipper failed while the driver was descending Ogbor hill near Umuoba road junction.

He said the driver lost control and rammed into the Abia Line Network Bus and the three tricycles.

He said the wind screen of the Flour Mill trailer, which was behind the Abia Line bus, was shattered and its bumper was damaged.

Another eyewitness, Mr Chidozie Ndukwe, who could not hide his shock, blamed the driver of the tipper for the accident and accused him of descending the hill on high speed.

He said that several commuters inside the Abia line bus which the tipper rammed into were severely wounded.

Ndukwe said the driver and conductor of the tipper that caused the accident were among the injured persons rushed to various hospitals in the city for medical treatment.

As at the time of filling this report, the accident had caused traffic gridlock on all roads leading to the scene of the accident.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police, Army, Traffic Warden and Civil Defence who were assisting the victims of the accident, declined comment.

Over the years, the Umuoba / Ogbor Hill junction had witnessed series of fatal accidents that had resulted to loss of innocent lives. (NAN)

Over years, the same place  has been the setting of fatal crashes but what does that mean to the drivers? Absolutely nothing because they wills till descend with speed like brainless people. RIP to the dead.
