Asaba – The anti-crime police division in Umunede, Delta, says it has arrested suspected cultists in Ede Grammar School and Comprehensive High School, Umunede.

DCP Taiwo Lakanu announced the arrest in a statement in Asaba on Friday.

Lakanu said the division received a distress call that cultists had invaded the schools.

He said that one Ikelechi, whose surname was unknown, was shot in the process and rushed to Agbor where he was confirmed dead.

Lakanu said the team responded based on the information and arrested 17-year- old Stephen Jerry of Ede Grammar School.

He said the cultists, numbering about 50, attacked the police station with intent to burn it.

He said that the Divisional Police Officer mobilised and dispersed them, adding that Chinedu Osemene and Roland Abiamuwe were arrested for damaging the station’s sign post.

He said items recovered from them included one locally made pistol, a live cartridge, two guns and two packets of knockout fire devices.

He said efforts were in top gear to arrest the fleeing cultists. (NAN)
