He has been mum about it but pictures are now doing the talking. Campaign posters announcing President Goodluck Jonathan’s readiness to contest the 2015 presidential election were on Wednesday pasted across major spots in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The all-glossy posters which were strategically pasted in some areas of the Federal Capital Territory; FCT were posted courtesy of the South-South People’s Action Group.

The series of posters, which had President Jonathan dressed in his traditional Ijaw attire and the matching fedora’s hat had different inscriptions which read:

“2015: no vacancy in Aso rock. Let’s do more“, “One good term deserves another. Support Dr. Goodluck Azikiwe Jonathan for 2015 presidency”.

The campaign posters have been spread across the major areas of ECOWAS building, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Wuse 5 and the Central Business District, where major government offices are situated.

The launch of the campaign materials contradicts the president’s claim that he has not yet decided on the 2015 presidential election but concentrating his efforts on transforming Nigeria in line with his manifesto.

Some of the posters as seen in the picture were pasted on platforms with glaring warning that posters should not be pasted on it.

The nation’s next general elections are not due till 2015

Their own view

However, the presidency later on Wednesday dissociated itself from the posters campaigning for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, saying “those who are behind it are not acting as the president’s agents.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati in a statement, said the President is focused on delivering on his mandate for Nigerians and would not be distracted by the politics of 2015.

The statement adds that, “those pasting the posters are trying to express their own view.”

“The President had stated that he will talk about the presidency from 2014. Those doing these do not have the consent of the President.”

“Nigerians should take the president for his word and ignore any other information to the contrary” the statement added.
