Bomb scare, Monday, caused a stir and halted all business activities at Area 10, Garki Abuja as the Anti Bomb Squad unit of the Nigeria Police was reported to have detonated two parcels suspected to be bombs at the gate of Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST office

FCT Police Commissioner, Aderenle Shinaba however dismissed the bomb scare noting that the Police Explosion Ordinance Device Squad of the command, only disarmed a 40 ton object made up of sand and tiles.

The police anti bomb squad barricaded the area in a bid to detonate them to ensure that there were no casualties.

An eye witness, Jibah John, a traffic officer said that the parcel was left outside the gate of the Post Office last Saturday and was addressed to a female cabinet member (okonjo iweala) with N50. 00 Nigeria postal stamp on it.

It was gathered that when the officials of NIPOST saw the parcel, they were suspicious of it and decided to alert the police.

It was further gathered that the Police from Area 1 Division immediately arrived at the scene and called the Anti bomb Units, who on arrival instructed the on lookers to stay away from the scene as they eventually detonated the contents and left to their office with the cylinder.

Also speaking, a Vendor beside the NIPOST office, Victor Paul, said, "from the items we saw here they are one of those things they always described, whenever we heard of people being caught with IED and others.
He said: Most of these items like wire, sand, clay and  all those substances were actually there, if only police can show you the video you could have seen the items, but I cannot say it is bomb because we are watching at a far distance."
