A Florida man is currently recovering after his pet dog shot him with his 9 mm handgun.

Police however, said they are not going to prosecute the dog, as the shooting was accidental.

According to local reports, 35-year-old Gregory Dale Lanier of Highlands County was driving his truck with his pet pooch on Saturday when the dog kicked a 9mm handgun lying on the floor of the truck, discharging a single bullet in the process.

Gregory told police he thought the gun was not loaded, but he immediately learnt it was the other way round when he 'heard "boom", saw smoke and felt a burning in his leg.' He was not seriously injured.

Police has ruled the dog, name Fido, shot him by accident and so no prosecution, adding that they have never seen a case like this before.

"9mm handgun lying on the floor of the truck" Sorry o. But its mostly your fault.  Why would you just leave a gun on the floor like that or anywhere that can be easily accessed and picked up. Even if it wasnt a dog, what if it was a young child that picked it up. Some ppl these days. SMH. Hope you learned your lesson on this.Your lucky the dog shot you only on the leg and no where that could cost you your life. Thank God for that.
