Social networking has been a big deal in the world in recent times. Nigeria is not exception to this major impact. The social network twitter looks like one that is here to stay, unlike its rival facebook whose buzz has been steady dwindling in recent times. People say if you want the highest number of publicity and awareness on anything; be it a new song, party, concert, campaign, store, brand etc. You must definitely rely on twitter to create that buzz.

Now here’s the catch, twitter trends are set and arranged based on location. Major Trending locations that exist Include; Nigeria as a nation and Lagos, while more locations are soon to be added.

Covenant University, which according to its recent award is said to be the most ICT driven University in the Country. Well this is a school I hear people use the internet to order foods from the school’s cafeteria to their rooms. The students in Covenant University claim to be the “backbone of Twitter in Nigeria”. Take for example a Saturday where the students in the university had a general paper called TMC. The buzz surrounding this exam was so intense that it created a trend on twitter. This Trending topic “TMC” was way above trends like; Davido, EME, WizKid etc. So the thing people still ponder on is; how a school so small have so much impact on twitter.

That’s not all, another trend started over the weekend about the most frequently asked questions by students in the university which had the hashtag #MostAskedCUquestions. This period being a vacation for the students of the school was almost like twitter was about to be shut down because of this so called random question being asked for amusement. The trend #MostAskedCUquestions was trending in Nigeria and Lagos. This was way above LASU, Run My Race, Burna Boy which were the leading Trends in the Nation.

An anonymous source says a certain student from the school had too much buzz that he himself started trending in Lagos because he was tweeting about #AGBALUMO all day.

The question now being asked is; how is it possible that a school with merely 7000 students has so much impact on twitter in a country with about five million active users? However they do it all we can say is Nigerians are amazed.
