THE British construction worker executed by terrorists in Nigeria was planning to marry, it emerged last night.
Brendan Vaughan, 55, originally from Leeds, was hoping to start a new life in Thailand and had got engaged to local woman Orasa Arpornkaew.
He was one of seven foreign nationals murdered in cold blood on Saturday by Islamic extremist group Ansaru. They were kidnapped last month while working for construction firm Setraco in the Nigerian town of Jama’are.
Mr Vaughan had recently posted pictures on Facebook of two Nigerian protectors with assault rifles where he was working. Last night friends had started posting tribute messages. Peter Dixon from Manchester wrote: “RIP mate.”
Ansaru said the hostages were killed after British warplanes were reportedly seen in the area.
The terrorists said a video of the executions would be posted online. An image beside the message appeared to show a gunman standing over bodies.
Foreign Secretary William Hague said: “This was an act of cold-blooded murder, which I condemn in the strongest terms.”
