The hot weather being experienced in Birnin Kebbi has forced the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to reduce electricity distribution from five to two hours, owing to the capacity of transformers in the state.

The Business Manager of PHCN, Birnin Kebbi, Engr. Lawal Ahmed Kangiwa, said this while speaking with newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
“The hot weather being experienced has forced the company to reduce distribution from five hours to two hours owing to the capacity of transmitting transformers. The proactive measures we put in place between security operatives in collaboration with communities through community vigilante have yielded positive results with the arrest of two cable vandals in the state’’, he said.

The manager added that the incessant power outages in parts of the state, especially in Gesse Quarters, Aliero Housing Estate, Gwadangwaji Quarters, parts of Rafin Atiku and Badariya area could be blamed on the weather and non completion of the Federal Government expansion project.
He said the situation will improve as soon as the expansion of two sub-stations in the state is completed.

“The lukewarm attitude of the contractor handling the project has also made it impossible for the people of the state to enjoy improved power supply. The ministerial task force on power which was set up by the ministry of power since the regime of former President Obasanjo has also abandoned its job. All necessary equipment and infrastructure needed to complete the installation are deposited at the premises”, he said.

He added that vandalization and theft of PHCN cables by miscreants have drastically reduced in Kebbi, following the proactive measures put in place by the company.
