The embattled Deputy Governor of Imo State Jude Agbaso has been impeached.

Twenty five out of twenty six State legislators voted in favour of the impeachment.

Jude Agbaso was impeached for taking bribe from a Lebanese Contractor engaged in the on-going Road Construction works in and across Imo State using his office as the Deputy Governor and commissioner for works to influence the bribery act.

He received bribe totalling N458 million from the construction company.

Due to the abandonment of some road projects by some contractors in Imo State, the Imo Joint Committee on State and Local Government Projects went into investigation to find out why the roads were abandoned. In the investigation, it was discovered that Jude Agbaso, the deputy governor of Imo state who was the commissioner for works then , was fingered in a N458 million bribery scam. Acting on the report of the Project Monitoring Committee, the Imo House of Assembly set up a Special Adhoc Committee for further investigation.

Last week, a court based in Owerri has struck out a motion by Agbaso to stop his impeachment by the Imo Assembly.

The Presiding Judge, Justice F.I. Duruohaigwe, said that it would be unnecessary to grant the motion, since the applicant was not challenging the impeachment.

Agbaso had prayed the court to restrain the state legislature from proceeding with the impeachment process which began last two weeks.

And Now, former Chief of Staff to Imo State Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha, Prince Eze Madumerie, has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor.
