The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 3-man kidnapping and armed robbery gang that was alleged to have kidnapped a traditional ruler, Josepha Aliebo of Njikoko Umulol Okigwe and an Anglican priest, Banabass Arinze.
Disclosing this to newsmen at the kidnappers hide-out at Akunwata village in Arondiziogu Onuimo Local Government area of Imo State, the Imo state Commissioner for Police, Mohammed Katsina said the suspects were arrested through the coordinated efforts of his intelligence and the command’s special ambush team who were working to ensure that the kidnap victims were rescued under good condition.
The three suspects are 36 years old Sunday Ikechukwu, 34 years old Kingsley Henshaw and 38 years old Simeon Igwegbe. Mr Igwegbe is the son of a notable traditional ruler in Ogbobu autonomous community in Okigwe Local Government area.
Mr Katsina further disclosed that during investigations to the Palace of the traditional ruler Eze Basil Iguegbe whose son is one of the suspects, he was nowhere to be found, having heard of the arrest of the son, he took to his heels.
Meanwhile, the Son of the Kidnapped royal father said the Imo Police made tremendous effort in ensuring that his father was rescued alive but after paying a ransom of N2 million due to pressure from family members.
However, the suspects who confessed to be guilty of the charges said it is their second time in the business.
