There’s been unrest and bitterness in Edo State ever since the Local Government Chairmanship Elections on Saturday. Some youths loyal to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday stormed the Kings Square in Benin City protesting the swearing-in of the 14 Local Government Chairmen by Governor Adams Oshiomhole despite the rejection of the polls by the PDP.

The youths apparently loyal to the PDP insised that the elections should be cancelled as elections did not hold across the state. The protesters also boasted that Wednesday’s election in Esan West and Esan North East will not hold unless the previous elections are cancelled.

However their protest was cut short by youth of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) who chased them out of the Kings Square and took over the Kings Square. The protest which lasted about two hours was however dispersed by soldiers and angry youths armed with cutlasses and wood chanting PDP Ole.

PDP Publicity Secretary Edo State, Mathew Urhoghide also on Tuesday described the just concluded local government elections in Edo as a “national calamity.”http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dIYEkl0udJM
