Scrap Seller Docked For Stealing N3.2 Million

A 25 year old scrap seller, Samuel Akindese, who was allegedly accused of stealing N3.2 million belonging to one Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate court.

The suspect who is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing was docked before     Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi, while others were charged in absence.

Akindese, a scrap seller at Kantakowa market, in Oke-Odo area of Oke-Odo area of Lagos State Lagos State was said to have conspired with others at large to commit the said offence.

In same vein, a middle-aged man, Ali James was arraigned before Magistrate Oshodi Makanju for allegedly stealing N4.1million belonging to Dansa Foods Ltd.

The suspect, a 43 year old is facing a two count charge of stealing, preferred against him by the police.

In the case of Akindese, the police prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi told the court that the defendant committed the said offence on February 24, 2013, at Kantakowa market at about 5.40pm.

He said that the defendant conspired with others at large to steal corper wire valued at N3, 250, 000 belonging to Alhaji  Abubakar who resides at 9, Ogunde Street in Kantankowa market.

According to the prosecutor, the offence allegedly committed by the culprit is contrary to section 307 and punishable under section 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.

However, when the two-count charge was read to the defendant, who resides at 216, Imise street, Owode, Ifako area of Ogun state, he pleaded not guilty to the offences, while the  Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The court added that one of the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means, own a landed property in Lagos, and show evidence of tax payment for three years while his address must be verified by the court registrar.

She adjourned the matter to June, 3, 2013, for trial.

Also, Ali James charged for Dansa Foods’ fund was also granted bail in the sum of N500, 000.

The suspect, who is 43 years and public servant, was docked before Magistrate Oshodi Makanju. The defendant who resides at 8, Oladele Obadore Bus Stop in Iba Estate area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge against him when the charge was read.

The police prosecutor Sampson Ekikere told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between January and March 2013.

He said that James stole various products of Dansa Food Ltd which is valued at N4.1million at Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja area of Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under section 285(7) of the Criminal Laws No 34 Vol. 44, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

The matter was adjourned to May 30 for trial.
