The lower chamber approved the proclamation after a closed-door session hours after the Senate unanimously gave a similar approval.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who announced the approval of the lawmakers after a four-hour secret meeting of the 253 members present, advised the insurgents to take advantage of the amnesty offered by the government.
He also cautioned troops to protect innocent people living in the areas where military operation is taking place.
Speaking after the session, some of the lawmakers said the amendments which affected some aspects of the exercise of the President’s powers, were in the best interest of the country.
The House has set up a conference committee to meet with the Senate and come up with a harmonised copy of the amendment, a process that must be completed before the two days allowed by the Constitution elapses.
The approval by the two arms of the National Assembly legalises the declaration by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday last week of a State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States.
