At the trial, State prosecutor, Mrs. Jane Ewurum told the court that the suspect and three others who were at large conspired, attacked and robbed one Rev. Pastor Peter Zuana, the Secretary General of the NKST Synod, at Mkar in Gboko local government area of Benue state in May 2012.
She disclosed that the suspect was apprehended by the Police in Gboko after the robbery while his accomplices escaped.
The prosecution witness called six co-witnesses, while the documents of the stolen vehicle was tendered in evidence.
Also tendered before the court as exhibit was a bag containing an expended bullet shell, four jean trousers, one singlet, a tooth brush and two identity cards which were all recovered from the suspect.
On his part, the convict called two witnesses which included his wife and brother who all gave evidence in defense.
Delivering judgement, the presiding Judge, Justice Ada Onum, observed that all evidences before him established a case of criminal conspiracy and theft against the suspect.
The judge snubbed the plea of leniency by the counsel to the accused, Mrs Christie Umburga who had urged the court to tamper justice with mercy.
In his judgment, Justice Onum observed that the evidences against the accused outweighed his defense, he accordingly sentenced him to death by hanging.
