The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said that it recovered cocaine weighing 5.9kg abandoned by a suspected drug baron at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

The spokesman for the agency, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday.

He said that the banned substance was hidden inside industrial equipment imported from Panama in Central America.

“The consignment was left unclaimed. When nobody came to claim ownership, we invited other security agencies and carried out a search.

“It was in the process that the cocaine was discovered inside the equipment, ‘’ he said.
Ofoyeju also said that the agency arrested a suspected drug trafficker who excreted 54 wraps of cocaine which he ingested in Brazil.

“A 36-year-old man was also apprehended in connection with the ingestion of 54 wraps of cocaine weighing 875 grammes.

“The suspect claimed that he had wanted to get married with the sum of 4,000 U.S. dollars (about N6.2 million) they promised to pay him.

“He claimed he has struggled in life but has nothing to show for it.

“ He was in Cape Verde for six years before going to Brazil in March 2013,“ Ofoyeju said.

He gave the assurance that the agency would thoroughly investigate the cases and prosecute offenders.

$4,000 is not equivalent to 6.2million naira, it is 620,000 naira.
