Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike helped Fenerbahce grab a 2-1 win at
Kayseri Erciyesspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
Having endured
a less
flamboyant start since returning for a second spell from Spartak Moscow in
August, his manager Ersus Yanal had, prior to the match, disclosed the
Nigerian’s importance to the Istanbul club and he repaid the trust with an
injury-time match winner, sending home the crowd gathered at the Kadir Has
Sehi Stadi frustrated.
Moussa Sow gave the ‘Yellow Canaries’ a 9th minute lead before Randall
Azofeifa equalized for the newly promoted minnows on 23 minutes.
Erciyes held off their opponents for the most of the second-half as Fener
wasted a couple of opportunities with Sow and Dirk Kuyt failing to score.
Emenike, who came on in the 77th minute, helped coach Yanal’s team return
to the top of the Super Lig standing with a late stoppage goal.

Against Erciyesspor on Sunday.

Midfielder Kuyt sent a vicious cross to the hosts area in the 95th minute,
which was headed home by the 26-year-old Nigerian forward onto the
second post into the net.
Emenike’s goal increases Fenerbahce’s point to 19, four ahead of Besiktas,
who will entertain Caykur Rizespor on Monday at an empty Istanbul Ataturk
Olympic Stadium due to a four-match crowd ban.
It was the Nigerian’s first goal in seven league appearances this season,
which comes after his brace in the 2-1 2014 World Cup playoff win over
Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
