The Ministry of Aviation says normal flight operations have resumed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

On Wednesday night, a Saudi Air Cargo flight SVA 6814, having landed safely, veered off the runway, causing the airport to be closed temporarily for landing, although take-offs continued.

A statement signed by Joe Obi, an aide of the Minister, Stella Oduah, said the aircraft involved in the incident had been cleared off the runway.

“It took the swift, combined emergency response effort of the Aviation agencies, (FAAN, NAMA, AIPB, NIMET, NCAA, NCAT), Customs, the Security agencies and Fire Service personnel to accomplish the feat in record time,” he said.

“We make haste to add that our first priority is safety,” the statement further assured. “We however regret the disruption in flight services which arose from this incident.”

The Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIPB) is understood to have commenced an investigation into the incident.
