According to police authorities, the suspects went from house to house and stole 27 phones, two laptops and other valuables.

It was learnt that after terrorising residents for hours, the suspects escaped in a blue Toyota Matrix marked, FST368CF.

Our correspondent learnt that on getting to the Adeniji Adele area of the state, the robbers were intercepted by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and a gun battle ensued.

A police source said, “We recovered two double-barrelled pistols, 16 live cartridges and three expended cartridges from them.

“We also recovered two laptops, 27 stolen phones and other house-breaking tools from them. Meanwhile investigations are ongoing.”

A policeman in the SARS office said, “The incident is really amusing as all the 27 phones have been ringing all day. Many people have been calling to tell us that their phones were stolen by the robbers and they have even been recounting their ordeal in the hands of the suspects.

“We have told many of them to come forward as there will be no problem in retrieving their property.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent on the telephone.
