The regulator had sold $460 million at 150.25 naira to the dollar at its auction on Monday, against $525 million demanded. Dealers said higher dollar sales by the central bank had restored some confidence and helped the naira to appreciate on the interbank market.
The naira was trading at 154.70 to the dollar on the interbank market on Thursday compared with 154.90 at Wednesday's close.
The central bank has doubled dollar supply this week at its twice-weekly auctions from around $200 million per auction to $400 million in a step to reduce demand pressure and support the naira.
Dealers said a move by the regulator to stop banks from trading funds purchased at the auctions had impacted positively on the market as demand for dollars was gradually slowing.
