"Proposal is being pursued with the Federal Government of Nigeria for the setting up coal and gas based power plants in Nigeria and sourcing of gas for NTPC's plants in India," NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, R S Sharma told PTI after his visit to 648mw gas based power plant at Jhanor.
Besides, two 250mw coal based power plants in Trincomalee region in Sri Lanka will be set up for which site is being identified, and a joint venture with Ceylon electricity company is under finalisation, Sharma said. "NTPC plans to have 75,000mw plus capacity by 2017", Sharma stated.
Projects having a capacity of 17,930mw are under various stages of implementation, and the company will achieve a target of 50,000mw by 2012, the NTPC chairman said.
Capacity mix of 2012 includes 40,000mw from coal, 8,000mw from gas and 2,000mw from hydro power, he said, adding that NTPC is coming up as a strong player in hydro power.
“By 2017, NTPC will have 75,000mw capacity mix, consisting of coal 53,000mw, gas 10,000mw, hydro 9,000mw, nuclear 2,000mw and renewable 1,000mw”, he said.
