Yes it can... However, only for a period after which if the romance is not consumated frustrations will set in and that relationship might have to be brought to an end.

Basically it all depends on the frequency of "fueling" of these romances among other things. If the couple have other interests or preoccupations that distract themselves from each other and have other needs that require their attention, it could survive a lot longer without sex.

The key is to maintain a healthy pace of fanning the the flames of romance. It's a triky process but the mature mind can do it. For the masses i'd recommend just to make sure if U intend doing it right have a wedding date set, work towards it and as it draws closer u both can become less cautious. Even that requires some control.
