; It was a tragic end for a mother of five in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as she was raped and murdered by unknown persons.
The ugly incident occurred at Araromi/Oriyanrin area of the state capital in the early hours of yesterday. The late single mother identified as Mrs. Taiwo Sanjo, until her death, lived in a one-room apartment at a boys quarter where her assailants struck.
Police source told Saturday Sun yesterday that Mrs. Sanjo was in her own pool of blood when homicide detectives arrived the scene.
The source further hinted that, blood was oozing out of her private part, while her night wrapper as well as her pant were drenched in blood.
This made detectives to conclude that she might have been raped before her neck was slashed with a sharp object, which eventually led to her death after bleeding profusely. It was further gathered that her corpse was found on the floor with her legs wide opened, while her pant and wrapper were also drenched in her own blood.
The deceased was said to have lost her first husband for whom she had four children before she re-married. Her neighbours described her as an easy-going woman whose murder was shocking.
A woman, who spoke with Saturday Sun on condition of anonymity, lamented what she described as cruelty to mankind. “I don’t know who killed Iya Friday, or why she was killed, but I know that those who did it will definitely incur the wrath of God. Since she came to this area, after the death of her husband, she had been struggling to make ends meet by selling pap”, the neighbour stated.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, added that four persons had been arrested in connection with the murder. He also added that the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye had ordered full investigations into the matter.
“Since it is murder, the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department of the command for proper investigation, while those arrested would also assist in our investigations”, Adejobi disclosed.
