Tiv/Fulani Crisis: War Erupts In Benue As Gov Suwam Moves to Dislodge Nomads

Heavy fighting  has erupted in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, between local residents, the Tivs, and their visitors, the Fulanis, NaijaSharpNews correspondents in Makurdi have reported. The fighting erupted few hours after the Executive Governor of the State,  Gabriel Torwua Suswam Tingir, in a meeting with President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, moved for the dislodgement of nomads in the State. According to our reporters, The fighting which erupted in Adeke community located behind  Mobile Police barracks Makurdi, stretched to other parts of the town, including some areas along Naka road.

Efforts by our correspondents to secure comments from the Police authorities in the state went futile as calls directed at relevant persons in the Command did not materialize. However, our sources in Makurdi have said security men were already on ground to contain the uprising as at the time of filing in the report.

Contacted, the Secretary of Cattle Breeders in the State, Garus Gololo confirmed the fightings between the two Nigerian natives.

Similarly, an aide to the governor of the state on Fulani Matters, Shettima Mohammed said it was true that Fulani and Tiv people are fighting in the area at the moment.

"it is true. Fighting is going on in Adeke right now. From the information at my disposal, the Tiv youths yesterday attacked the Fulani men who were grazing their cow," he said.
