Armed Robbers numbering seven today stormed the branch of the Vine Branch Church located at Yemetu, Ibadan, in Oyo State killing two policemen in the process of executing their mission in the Church. Confirming the incident to NaijaSharpNews correspondents in Ibadan, the State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP. Olasibi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor said men of the State Police Command engaged the robbers in a gun duel that led to the deaths of the two officers.
On why the Police were drafted to the Church, the State Police spokesperson said the Church had made an arrangement with a bank in Ibadan to move its returns for safekeeping, thereby necessitating the presence of the Police escorts. According to DSP. Olabisi Ilobanafor, no arrest has been made and no property of the church was taken by the criminals. No member of the church was caught in the firefight.
The Spokesperson who regretted the incident, said Police in the State have been deployed to ensure that the criminals are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
