Mad Rage: Mentally ill Man Kills 2 People, Injures 1 in Akwa Ibom

A man suspected to be mentally ill  was said to have killed to persons injuring another at Afaha Ukwa junction in Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom.
 
According to reports, the man dragged an elderly man off a motorcycle smashing his head on the ground in the process.

It was gathered that the mentally ill man was later beaten to death by angry youths in the area who witnessed the incident.

Nigerian Tribune reports said that two persons were reported to have been rushed to the hospital after struggling with the mad man, while one of them died on the way to the hospital.

An eye witness, Mr Udeme Okon, told Sunday Tribune that the incident generated tension in the area.

Okon explained that the mad man took to his heels afetr the incident while angry youths ran after him and caught him.

Another eye witness, Mr Femi Williams, said that the mad man was begging for money, but when nobody gave him money, he started fighting and stabbing people.

“When a traffic officer and policemen came to rescue the people, the mad man also fought with the traffic officer,’’ he said.

According to him, the mad man succeeded in tearing the officer’s uniform and took to his heels, but “aggrieved youths descended on the mad man and killed him.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Etim Dickson, an Assistant Superitendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate.

He advised members of the public to be more careful in dealing with people who have mental problem.
