Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abaa Moro came under serious attack on Monday from Enugu residents over the death of some job-seekers during the interview conducted on Saturday by the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

Concerned residents, who spoke to DailyPost described the minister’s reaction to the incident as “condemnable”.

Moro had while speaking to the media on Saturday blamed the deaths on impatience on the part of the job-seekers.

In a comment, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Abada, Chairman of Academic staff union of Universities, ASUU, University of Nigeria Nsukka said the minister and the Comptroller General of NIS Mr David Parradang should not only be sacked but prosecuted for the tragedy.

He said, “common sense demands that in such a situation, the exercise should be carried out in batches.

“If he wants to carry it in a day, adequate arrangement could have been put in place on how to manage such a mammoth crowd.

“The number of applicants that attended that recruitment shows the level of youth unemployment in this country, government should do something about it”.

Abada, who said it was an abomination to collect money from job seekers, urged the Federal Government to ensure that the N1000 paid by each applicant was refunded.

Similarly, Mr Chike Omeje, a lawyer and former chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, UNN chapter said that the minster should be sacked because of poor planning of the recruitment exercise, leading to the death of some promising future leaders.

“The minister is aware that this ugly incident has happened before in that same ministry, but he did nothing to avert a re-occurrence.

“To me, both the minister and the Comptroller- General of NIS should be sacked for incompetence”, he said.

Another resident of the State, Chief Ben Nduka called on the Federal Government to cancel the result of the interview.

“What happened on Saturday was a sham called interview. I stopped by at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu and what I saw was horrible.

“They were never ready to conduct any interview. All they did was to exploit money from poor Nigerians; government should live up to its responsibility and bring all those involved to book”, he said.

He's a big fool.......How can improper planning and implementation be caused by job-Seeker's impatience??

When they were raking in the over 6 Billion from registration.....didn't they know it would be like this?
Their souls will haunt any of the people that will get a share from the money.
