Resignation: Emulate South Korean PM, APC tells Jonathan
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and other members of his government to learn from the recent resignation of South Korean Prime Minister, Chung Hongwon, over his government’s poor handling of the April 16 ferry disaster that left over 300 dead or missing.
The APC advised that Nigerian leaders should conduct themselves in higher standards as a way of ensuring good governance and winning global respect for the country.
In a statement issued in Lagos over the weekend by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the resignation of the South Korean prime minister must jolt the conscience of Nigerian officials who had been found wanting when they have found themselves in similar situations.
According to the APC spokesperson, ‘’Until our leaders hold themselves to higher standards, as it is done in other democracies around the world, and take responsibility when necessary, they will continue to perpetuate impunity, celebrate mediocrity and cling to power at all costs, even when it is clear that they are not serving any other interest but theirs.’’

Abducted school girls: One million women to march on Abuja
*** Presidency moves against Nyako, cuts security personnel
Women all over the country will on Wednesday stage a one million women march in Abuja to press for the release of Government Girls Secondary School girls kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State, by suspected insurgents two weeks ago.
Prof. Hauwa Abdu Biu disclosed this yesterdaduring an emergency meeting convened by the wife of Borno State governor, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima on the way forward for the release of the girls.
She had last week spoken on behalf of the coalition of Borno women after their meeting in which they called for the release of the school girls.
The women had also offered to go to the Sambisa Forest in search of the school girls.
Biu said at the meeting that the one million women march, which was tagged “Free our girls”, would involve women in the country and called for the mobilisation of Borno women to Abuja for the rally.
“The last time, we were in black but this time around the colour for the Abuja rally is red, so we should all be prepared and mobilised ourselves for the rally,” she said.

Why Akpabio fired commissioners other
Contrary to the claim by Akwa Ibom State Government that the sack of two commissioners and chairmen of six parastatals to reinvigorate the administration, National Mirror has learnt that the real reason was not stated.
Former Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan, his Rural Development counterpart, Effiong Abia and the chairmen were fired last week in an exercise packaged as ‘reinvigorating the machinery of government’, but investigations have indicated otherwise.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, in a statement announcing the sack of former executive council members and six board chairmen, said it was to further drive the ‘uncommon transformation programme of the state’.
The government had in the statement said: “In view of the need to reinvigorate the machinery of government and drive further the uncommon transformation programme of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Godswill Akpabio, CON, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle.

Stop inciting Nigerians, IGP warns politicians
Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar has warned politicians to desist from making what he described as “unguarded, inflammatory, and unsubstantiated statements, some of which are capable of causing the breach of public peace”.
The IGP vowed to deal with erring politicians caught in the act. The police boss also urged politicians to emulate frontline opposition politician, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who recently rose in condemnation of terrorist activities in the country.
In a statement signed on his behalf by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, the IGP said much as the police is not ignorant of the fundamental rights of the citizens such as the rights to freedom of speech, it will not condone any provocative, divisive and inciting comments that are clearly uncorroborated by facts or evidential proof.

Dangote donates relief materials to Benue crisis victims
Dangote Group has donated 12 trailer loads of relief materials worth N40m to the Benue State Government for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
The materials, according to the group, are meant to support the ongoing effort of the state government to bring succour to the victims of the recent crisis that affected some parts of the state.
Speaking at the occasion for the formal handing over of the items to the displaced persons in Makurdi, President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said: “We have a very cordial relationship with our host communities in Benue, and it is only natural (that) we identify with them at a time like this. What has happened is unfortunate and we empathise with all the affected people.”
Dangote, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Mr. Joseph Makoju, said that it was unfortunate that the crisis happened, adding that the insurgency was diversionary to the government’s effort at bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
