A 28-year old man, Nicholas Inyang, has been remanded in prison custody by an Oshodi Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly battering his wife, Imaobong, over her denying him sex.

The suspect was arrested and charged to court with assault and negligence under the Criminal Code after the case was reported to the police at  Makinde Division of the state.

Imaobong told the court that because she denied her husband sex, he assaulted her and she had to be taken for medical treatment in the hospital.

According to her, she and Nicholas have been living as husband and wife though they've not formalised the union which has produced two children. She said he had refused to pay her bride price rather he was planning to impregnate her again which she was not in support of.

She also claimed that Nicholas had stopped providing for the upkeep of the family.

Responding to her allegations, Nicholas said he'd not gone to pay her bride price because he couldn't afford it but he insisted she was his wife as they have been living together as a couple for many years, therefore she had no right to deny him sex.

Nicholas pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Presiding over the matter, Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, granted the suspect bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till May 13.

He was, however, remanded in prison custody pending when he would fulfill his bail conditions.
