FormerPresident Olusegun Obasanjo has appealed to both the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to re-engage in negotiation so as to resolve the lingering academic crisis that has shut most universities in the country.
Saying the prolonged strike is a bad precedent in the country's education development, Obasanjo asked both the Federal Government and ASUU to drop their hard position on the matter and immediately resolve the strike
Obasanjo , who was on a tree planting campaign in Zaria ,Kaduna State said: "I cannot be here at this time as a parent, as a concerned Nigerian and as  a leader in this country without making reference to the ongoing strike. You know I was a victim in the past of ASUU's strike but like I have always said about the university environment, we must allow universities, students and teachers a little bit of lee way for what I called idiosyncracy  of the university environment."
He continued: But no dispute is ever solved unless those disputants engage in discussion in communicating and in dialogue. My appeal, and I hope all of you will join, is that the ASUU and the government should put aside their strong standing and grand-standing, and engage or re-engage in discussion, communication and dialogue which  is in the best interest of the country."
pals is this not funny and what i wuld consider ironic as this whole mess started during is administration.i hope tthe both negotiating parties come up with longlasting solution to this incessant stike actuions. Cool
