Despite a late winning goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal crashed out along with Ghana out of it the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Real Madrid star was thwarted three times by Fatau Dauda – saves that effectively knocked Paulo Bento’s side out. Had those flown in, they may have joined Germany in extending their tournament beyond the group stage.

Asamoah Gyan had earlier equalised for the Black Stars after John Boye’s comical own goal.

The result meant USA was safe and progressed to the second round, despite a 1-0 loss to Germany.
