The septuagenarian was snatched in his hometown, Isuanioma, Aguata Local Government Area, by the kidnappers who were said to have come in a Peugeot 406.
Commissioner of Police Philemon Leha said he had deployed his men in Isuanioma to track down the kidnappers.
Leha said everything would be done to rescue Pa Soludo, who retired from Nigerchem about 20 years ago.
He said: "My men have been positioned everywhere, combing for the kidnappers and their victim. We are on their (kidnappers’) trail. My men are looking for them. I have not been there (Isuanioma) but my men are there."
Coordinator of Soludo’s campaign Chike Anyaonu described the incident as "unfortunate".
The incident, he said, has thrown Isuanioma into confusion, adding:
"What will anybody benefit from kidnapping a 78-year old man? Is it also in the name of politics?"
A source quoted Soludo as saying last night: "It is true and I believe it is politically motivated."
